Safesite Facilities recently completed the supply and installation of 92 metres of in-ground timber hoarding for a redevelopment project in Worthing, West Sussex.
The project required the creation of a secure perimeter around a vacant building ahead of future construction works, providing both site security and public protection. As part of the installation, our team incorporated a vehicle access gate and a pedestrian door blank to accommodate the client’s operational requirements while maintaining a secure site boundary.
The site presented several challenges that required careful planning and experienced installation teams.
An existing timber picket fence had to be safely removed to establish the new hoarding line. The perimeter was located adjacent to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic routes, meaning additional control measures were required throughout the works to ensure the safety of both our operatives and members of the public.
As the building was vacant, there were no site facilities or support staff available. Our installation team therefore operated completely self-sufficiently, managing all aspects of the works independently while maintaining programme requirements.
Following an initial site assessment, Safesite Facilities developed an installation plan to safely remove the existing fencing and construct a robust 92m perimeter hoarding system.
The scope of works included:
Our experienced installation team worked efficiently to minimise disruption to surrounding road users and pedestrians whilst maintaining the highest safety standards throughout the project.
As with any in-ground hoarding installation, careful temporary works design considerations were required to ensure the structure would remain stable and secure throughout its operational lifespan.
The design process assessed several key factors, including ground conditions, wind loading, hoarding height, site exposure, and the intended duration of use. By evaluating these variables before installation commenced, SafeSite Facilities were able to determine the appropriate post spacing, embedment depths, and structural configuration required to achieve a robust and compliant solution.
Temporary works design plays a critical role in ensuring site hoarding can safely withstand environmental forces while maintaining a secure perimeter around vacant and development sites. This approach not only protects the public and neighbouring properties but also provides clients with confidence that the installation meets recognised engineering and safety standards.
Through a combination of practical installation expertise and temporary works design principles, SafeSite Facilities delivered a secure timber hoarding system that provided long-term protection against unauthorised access, vandalism, and fly-tipping while maintaining the professional appearance of the site.
As part of the overall site security package, SafeSite Facilities also supplied and installed a range of highly visible security warning signs along the timber hoarding perimeter. These signs were strategically positioned to provide clear warnings against unauthorised access, helping to deter trespassers and reduce the risk of vandalism, theft, and anti-social behaviour.
The installation was completed successfully, on schedule and to the client’s requirements.
The finished timber hoarding provided a professional, secure perimeter ready for the next phase of construction activity, whilst helping to protect the vacant building from unauthorised access and vandalism.
The client was particularly pleased with the quality of the finished installation, our responsiveness throughout the project and our ability to mobilise quickly to meet programme demands.
