Background
Our client was undertaking a high-value redevelopment of a town house in Selhurst, South London. To ensure the safety, security and privacy of the property during construction, they engaged our team to install perimeter construction site timber hoarding and secure vulnerable openings.
With the footprint of the redevelopment extending to the front of the property, a robust and visually tidy hoarding solution was required to protect the site, shield adjacent footpaths and maintain compliance with local planning and safety requirements.
Challenges
Before works commenced, the following key challenges were identified:
- Restricted Urban Site: Working in a tight residential street with pedestrian access meant the installation needed to minimise disruption and be positioned accurately within the property boundary.
- Secure Vehicle Access Required: The client needed a reliable vehicle access point for deliveries and removals during the works, which had to be integrated into the hoarding system without compromising security.
- Vacant Property Vulnerabilities: With interior works paused during early phases, windows and unused doorways were at risk of unauthorised access or damage.
Solution
After an initial survey and close consultation with the client, we delivered a tailored solution comprising:
- 17 metres of 2.4 metre high in-ground timber hoarding – providing a solid, secure perimeter around the front footprint of the house.
- 1 × 4-metre-wide ply-clad vehicle gate – professionally hung within the hoarding to allow efficient, secure access for vehicles and materials throughout the redevelopment.
- Painting finish to all timber and ply elements – giving a clean, cohesive aesthetic that complemented the local streetscape and met client requirements.
- Our Vacant Property Services installed high-security steel window screens to all exposed openings, deterring unauthorised entry during the early works phase.
Every element was finished to a high standard using quality materials, ensuring stability, durability and a professional visual finish throughout the project duration.
Execution
Our experienced installation team coordinated closely with the client and their contractors to deliver the hoarding system efficiently and safely:
- Site setup and installation were completed on schedule, with careful vehicle and pedestrian control to maintain safe access along the street.
- Precision installation ensured that all hoarding panels and the vehicle gate aligned correctly with the property edges and adjacent paving.
- Vacant property security measures were fitted quickly and discretely, adding an extra layer of protection for the building before internal works began.
Throughout the project, we ensured that all health and safety protocols were adhered to and that our works did not impede neighbouring properties or public right-of-way.
Outcome & Benefits
The finished hoarding and security installation delivered:
- Enhanced Site Security: A strong, privacy-enhancing perimeter that prevented unauthorised access and safeguarded construction activities.
- Functional Access: The wide, ply-clad vehicle gate provided reliable access for deliveries and waste removal without compromising perimeter integrity.
- Peace of Mind for the Client: With windows secured and the site fully enclosed, the client could progress with confidence into more complex phases of construction.
- Professional Finish: The painted finish and neat installation resulted in a visually acceptable solution for the local neighbourhood.
The project demonstrates our commitment to delivering bespoke hoarding and security solutions that are both practical and professionally executed, even within busy urban environments.
