Project Overview

Our Vacant Property Security team were engaged by a property owner in Birkenhead to secure a vacant building that had been attracting unwanted attention and attempted access. The client required a robust, professional security solution that would not only protect the structure but also deter trespassers and reduce liability risks associated with unauthorised entry.

Recently, footage captured by a self-proclaimed “urban explorer” showed an individual actively scouting the site for access points. The client granted permission for this footage to be shared. The video clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of the installed security measures, with the individual ultimately being deterred by the site’s protections; including the monitored alarm system. Our AI technology correctly classified them as a human and therefore triggered the alarm.

While urban exploration may appear to some as a harmless activity, this incident highlights a far more serious issue: vacant properties often present significant and unpredictable safety risks. Structural integrity, hidden hazards, unsafe floors, exposed services, and unstable materials can all pose serious danger to anyone attempting to gain access without proper assessment or protection.

Our Security Solutions

1. High-Security Doors with Key Safe

We installed purpose-built steel security doors to all primary access points. These were fitted with a secure key safe to allow controlled access for authorised personnel while preventing opportunistic entry.

2. Custom Steel Screens to Windows & Access Points

Bespoke steel security screens were measured, manufactured and installed to all vulnerable windows and secondary access points, removing easy or forced access routes into the building.

3. Monitored Alarm System

A fully monitored intruder alarm system was installed to provide 24/7 protection. As seen in the urban explorer’s own footage, the visible and audible presence of the alarm system acted as an immediate and effective deterrent.

4. Repair & Reinforcement of Heras Fencing

Our team repaired and reinstated the site’s existing Heras fencing, closing off gaps and restoring the perimeter to a secure condition.

Outcome

The combined security solution has successfully secured the property and eliminated unauthorised access points. In the individual’s own footage, they acknowledge that there is no viable route of entry, directly demonstrating the effectiveness of the installed measures. He was even put off by the alarm system sounding which alerted our security team to be dispatched to site as well.

Beyond protecting the asset, the security solution also helps prevent potentially dangerous situations where trespassers or urban explorers could seriously injure themselves due to unknown structural or environmental hazards inside the building.
