Transport Planner

Littlehampton, West Sussex

Reporting to: Fleet & Logistics Manager

Salary: £23,000 – £28,000 dependent on experience

Contract type: permanent, full time 42.5 hours a week

Location: Littlehampton


Job Purpose

To provide support to the Operations team by coordinating logistics and to generally contribute to the smooth running of the business.


Principle Duties & Accountabilities

The specific accountabilities of this flexible role may alter from time to time in order to meet the needs of the company, but accountabilities will include (or be equivalent in nature to) those listed below:

  • Planning and scheduling deliveries and collections for optimised routing efficiency, liaising with Operations colleagues and company depots
  • Ensuring work is planned cost effectively and in line with relevant legislation
  • Communicating transport movements to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner to ensure customers are made aware of any changes
  • Ensuring daily load plans are distributed to the warehouse in a timely manner to allow ample time for loading
  • Sharing information to third party unload crews to ensure resources are available at the point of delivery
  • Supporting the company in ensuring all company policies and procedures relating to H&S, Environment and Quality are being followed
  • Supporting the company in obtaining and maintaining relevant accreditations (i.e. CLOCS, FORS, etc.)
  • Reporting issues to senior management team
  • Supporting Operations and Finance with entering and checking weekly operative timesheets


Level of Knowledge & Experience

  • Relevant customer service experience gained in any commercial area.
  • Experience of computerised systems essential
  • MS Office (Excel) experience is essential
  • Strong understanding of the working of an office
  • Good knowledge of road traffic legislation, O Licence regulations and working time directives
  • Basic understanding of transport accreditations (e.g. FORS, CLOCS, etc.)
