Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) Manager

Littlehampton, West Sussex

Accountable to: TBD

Salary: £38,000 – £45,000 per annum

Location: Littlehampton


The Role

In a standalone role, to be responsible for overseeing and providing support to senior management on all areas of health & safety, sustainability, environmental performance, and quality across the company.


Health, Safety & Environment

Be familiar with and demonstrate a commitment to the requirements of the Health & Safety and Environmental Policies. Ensure that all relevant information contained within these policies is communicated to and carried out by staff and sub-contractors across the company.


Key Responsibilities:

The specific accountabilities of this flexible role may alter from time to time in order to meet the needs of the company, but accountabilities will include (or be equivalent in nature to) those listed below:

  • Develop and continually improve the Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality systems
  • Create risk assessments, including COSHH
  • Create safe operational procedures, methods of work and toolbox talks identifying and taking into account relevant hazards
  • Carry out site inspections including spot checks at all company properties and customer sites to check policies and procedures are being implemented
  • Support the operations team to create RAMS
  • Monitor compliance and conduct internal audits across the company
  • Keep records of inspection findings and produce reports to suggest improvements
  • Record accidents and incidents, advising on remedial actions
  • Undertake Investigations following significant incidents
  • Liaise with senior management regarding the company’s HSEQ performance
  • Support the development of the company’s internal business management system
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the company
  • Manage ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 including participating in all external audits
  • Assist with PQQ questionnaires on Health and Safety and Environmental matters
  • Work toward establishing and maintaining an excellent health & safety culture
  • Be familiar with and demonstrate a commitment to the requirements of all company policies
  • Ensure that all relevant information contained within these policies is updated and communicated to staff and sub-contractors across the company
  • Consult the management team on Health and Safety matters and report issues to the Managing Director
  • Chair Health and Safety Management Meetings
  • Work with managers monitoring and ensuring the right training has been provided
  • Maintain accurate records


Role Demands

The role requires the post holder to travel to various sites across the UK & occasionally staying away from home in order to carry out site visits. The role may require working antisocial hours on rare occasions.


Level of Knowledge & Experience

  • Excellent knowledge of legislation, best working practice and all external influences on HSEQ
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role
  • Holder of, or working toward, a relevant NEBOSH Certification or equivalent
  • Good knowledge of requirements for ISO accreditations and construction industry accreditations
